NEWS - 12/10/2001

Let me just say something - the shows this weekend rocked! If you missed them cause you live far away - I am sorry. If you missed them cause you're a slacker than you blew it big time.

Friday's hometown show at The Theatre was a big success. We collected a lot of canned goods for charity and despite a really shitty stage that we could barely move on - it went off! A lot of it of course had to do with the crowd (our fans rule). Despite a long wait till we played everyone was fully into it - singing along, pogoing, pitting and even a floater or two in a pretty small space made for a dangerous but cool setting! We debuted a new song "We Don't Hear A Single" and closed the night with a stage dive off the lobby bar. Need we forget how great it was to play with bands who we were all friends with - Psycho Cafe, Krave and Knocked Out. Once again - thanks to all the great people who came out - we can not wait to play all ages again in Ventura - it's sure to go off! It's worth mentioning Yahoo club members were also in full effect which was cool to see. When together they are no doubt a posse. Speaking of which crusie over to the club and join! It's in our links section.

Then Saturday night we were at Jerry's in Bakersfield! We almost didn't make it alive when a tire blew out on our new van - we drive on a donut all the way to the gig. We blamed it on this demo we were listening to. A demo which was sacrificed to the highway shortly after. This was our first time in Bako as the natives call it and it ruled. A devoted and awesome crowd stayed late to see us and the show, as far as performance wise, we think was better than the theatre. Met some great new people and even got put up for the night (and a little partying) with our new surrogate family in Bako! Leave it to a family of ten kids to have enough blankets for a band and roadie! Let alone a stellar DVD collection. We will definitely be back in Bakersfield in Jan or Feb and hopefully the word will spread there - thanks to all who helped promo it! You know who you are! : > )

So we'll be doing a bar show or two before the years out and then hitting Cali with a vengence early in 2002. Lots more in the works - keep checking here for the latest and thanks again to everybody who came out this weekend! Like I said much is in the works and we will let you as it happens. As for all the mails regarding touring outside of Cali - we promise we will see you in 2002 - at the absoute latest this summer - till then keep spreading the good word!

your fond of Bakersfield boys,

Chris, Aaron, Owen, Dan, Oné, Mike

NEWS - 12/3/2001

To all close personal friends of The Army of Freshmen,

First the bad news... this week's shows in Mammoth and Oakland have been canceled due to circumstances out of our control - namely The Alcohol Board shutting down two of the three clubs. We are bummed (no free condo in ski country) but we will be back up there in the new year. Apologies to anyone who was planning to come out to the shows and alas no new tour log.

To the good news...

The shows this weekend rocked - the crowds were a little light (don't battle Incubus in a college town!) but we met some cool new folks, OZMA flat out rocked and we got to break in our new van! Good times were had by all.

So to the new shows! There is only one place to be this Friday Night if you live in So Cal and that's at the Ventura Theatre for the Army of Freshmen's Canned Food Drive Show! Good people, good times and AOF headlining so expect lots of surprises. Well worth the drive! Here's the details...

ARMY OF FRESHMEN, PYSCHO CAFE, KRAVE, KNOCKED OUT
@ THE VENTURA THEATRE (in the lobby)
this FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7th
8pm, all ages welcome
8 bucks at the door, 6 w/ a canned food item

Then the next night we hit Bakersfield for the first time ever @ Jerry's! Here's the details...

ARMY OF FRESHMEN, THE FOREWORD, VALE, THE ROOMS
@ JERRY'S PIZZA
this SATURDAY, DECEMBER 8th
7pm, all ages welcome

don't miss out - these may quite possibly be our last shows of the year - BE THERE!

RETURN OF THE TOUR LOG part 2
(Nuns, Garlic and The Death of the Cheese Van)
by Chris Jay

First and foremost, I’d like to apologize profusely for the delay in getting the second half of this log done. I accept full responsibility and I can imagine the terrible emotional turmoil you have been thrust in due to the delay. In a awful twist of fate, the log was written and erased immediately prior to uploading last week. I was too angry to even think of writing it again for a few days. Forgive me dear reader, please… forgive me.

Now that we got that out of the way… let’s rock!

Ok. Where we last left our keyboard heavy power pop road warriors they we getting their much needed rest prior to their big show in Gilroy, California! Well morning came and big time troopers One’ and Taffy J (remember Taffy J?) got to the band room at 8 am to put new tires on our trailer. We thought after a summer of touring, the long trip up north may be the final straw for the poor guy and we better fix the problem before it comes. So the two am animals put on tires and by the time the rest of us showed up, we were ready to hit the road.

Now you have to keep in mind… The Army of Freshmen spent 3 long amazing months on the road this summer. From May 20 to August 20-we were gone and low and behold we absolutely loved it! You may hear a lot of bands bitch and complain about how hard touring is and don’t get me wrong there are definitely tough things about it but the bottom line for us was IT RULED. Maybe it had to do with the fact it was our first national tour but we had the best time of lives. So as you can imagine after sitting around for 2 months - we were…

More than excited to get out of town again even if it was only for a weekend. It felt like old times indeed when we all hopped into the Cheese Van (remember the Cheese Van?) and took off up north! Now immediately I went to sleep cause I am not a morning person. I typically go to sleep at 3 and wake up at 1. So I was out and as I will get into later on, The Cheese Van is the most uncomfortable vehicle in the world to crash out in. Nevertheless I awoke when we stopped in San Luis Obispo and just like old times we all piled out and headed into a convenience store - a ritual we practiced all summer. We grabbed a bite to eat, stuck up some stickers on stop signs and headed back on the road.

Let’s talk about Taffy J for second. Our driver, as I mentioned in the last log, is what you call an aggressive driver. Very aggressive actually. He has a habit of riding cars in front of him, cussing at them, honking the horn and in extreme cases flipping them off if they take too long to get out of the way. Don’t worry it’s all in good fun. It’s sight to behold when Taffy J in a beat up old van takes charge of the highway like a modern day outlaw and forces ordinary citizens to take heed of his taffy induced road rage. Suffice it to say - we love it. Some in fact loved it so much as we headed up the 101, we began to copy cat Taffy J’s actions. Aaron (Knobby as we affectionately refer to him as) was the premiere Taffy J impersonator. After Taffy forced yet another car out of his way, Knobby would finish off the victim with second flipping of the bird. We of course being 7 guys on the road for the first time in two months found this to be hilarious. Then things as they almost always do took a dramatic turn for the worse… As Taffy forced another victim off, Aaron proceeded to raise the middle digit at the old woman behind the wheel and then as it held high in the air like a foul mouthed statue of liberty, in an almost slow motion fashion, One’ screamed out the fateful words that will haunt Knobby’s dreams for many moons to come,

“THAT LADY’S A NUN!”

Yes indeed, as we could all plainly see, Aaron had just flipped off a woman of the cloth - a full blown habit wearing nun. With Aaron’s soul suddenly in potential jeopardy we all laughed heartedly but even though we all have differing religious backgrounds and views, we still put an end to the flipping off of other drivers. Everybody that is except for Taffy J… a man on a Taffy binge knows reasoning.

So with Aaron striking a blow for his personal jihad (if you get that - that’s damn funny)… we cruised to the mysterious town of Gilroy, California. A little background on this show - we didn’t know much about it really. It was booked on - line through another band called Rivals who truth be told we hadn’t even heard their music, they just seemed really friendly in e-mails. We were up for a trip – so we took it. Little did we know what the night had in store for us.

So after 6 hours drive time and one flipped off nun we approached Gilroy and as we entered the town a huge sign proclaimed to all our amazement… WELCOME TO GILROY – THE GARLIC CAPITAL OF THE WORLD! Yes folks, the Army of Freshmen were about to rock the garlic capital of the world. We got a big kick out of all this but as drove through town we realized that garlic in this town was no laughing matter. It was everywhere. The Garlic Club for Men, Garlic World, World’s Largest Garlic Clove, The Garlic City Times (I’m not making any of this up!). We found the club and got out of the car and as soon as the door opened… we all froze for a second because and I kid you not - the entire town smelt like garlic! It’s true. The place literally smelt like garlic. We walked around, went to a few terrible souvenir shops that you guessed it - smelt like garlic and hopped into the van (we were way early for the show) to check out Garlic World.

Lowdown on Garlic World… they sell garlic.

So after that we terrorized a discount store (I hope you’re catching the point that there is jack crap to do in the town) and headed back to the club. Upon arrival at the club, there were some people opening the place up and we started loading in since we were the first band. Now let me tell you… the place was pretty damn cool. It was like a decent sized concert hall with a real stage and lights. We were all pretty impressed. As we loaded in we met the soundman/owner. Now at this point things began to get a little weird. The soundman (whose name will be withheld to protect the innocent) was a really old guy who quite frankly had trouble hearing. Now let me repeat that again cause frankly it’s important - THE SOUND MAN WAS HARD OF HEARING! You can imagine how this could be a small problem. He then started to lecture us on the history of the room and how not to twist his cord or throw his mic, etc… We played it cool but we were all looking at each other like… what have we gotten ourselves into. Then the band who booked us, Rivals, arrived and they were truly some really nice guys. Super helpful and friendly. That was awesome because if the place was going to be a little weird at least the other bands may be cool.

Now playing first is never a picnic unless it’s huge show and this was not a huge show. Although we’d been in Nor Cal before (Davis, Chico, Sacramento, Redding, Visalia) we had never been anywhere near this particular area, so we didn’t expect many of our fans to show up. Therefore we decided to experiment with the set and each pick a song no matter if we had practiced it before or ever for that matter! Then we’d randomly put it in the set - keep in mind we NEVER do that. So the freak set looked like this…

1. On The Radio
2. Sing Along (NEW)
3. No Goodbyes (SUPER NEW)
4. Hard To Say (NEW)
5. Action Figure (NEW)
6. Precious Time
7. Return To The Wasteland (SUPER NEW)
8. Adeline
9. Light In The Sky
10.Paradise (NEW)

We played and we sort of sucked… we had a few moments but we did a hatchet job on poor “Return To The Wasteland” and it had quite frankly been a while since we played “Light In The Sky”. So it was pretty uneventful, the kids there were cool though, they seemed to dig it and we did have few friends/fans show up including Leigh, Sean and his lady, Tiffany (!) and friend and a girl who was friends with Evan who worked on our cd art. So that was cool but we all felt we could of given them a whole lot more.

Anyways I’m gonna skip the rest of the show and get to the ride home cause that’s where things get really good!

Quick show recap-

Red Top Road - cool indie rock band ala J.E.W.
Keeping Ellis - imagine a hard Radiohead
Rivals - great hardcore band (not a good fit for us but they really kicked ass)

So we had initially planned on staying up in the area but quite frankly there were no parties and we figured we’d have more fun on the road plus we wouldn’t waste our Sunday driving. So after a small Wrestlemania in the Cheese Van at the Jack In The Box drive thru (I hate Jack!) that found me getting bruise on my arm from Mike, One’ catching a left hook intended for Mike and Knobby receiving a brutal Pearl harbor style Charlie horse - we hit the road.

Now… this should be the end of the story but… things are about to get interesting.

We have a small road tradition of listening to books on tape. You’d be surprised, they’re pretty damn interesting sometimes. A book that really grabbed us this summer was The Kato Kaelin story (OJ Simpson trial stuff) well for this trip Knobs surprised us all with a Faye Resnick book about Nicole Simpson (more OJ stuff!). Well with Taffy at the wheel and the clock at midnight we set off. Shortly after that those with good seats fell asleep and the sorry sucks like myself were pressed against the unbearable arm rests in the van listening to the beotch known as Faye Resnick yap on about all her money! Well after a couple hours, (3am to be exact - my bedtime) I simply have to go to sleep. I then proceed to do the unthinkable and lay on the floor underneath one of the seats. I’m talking I’m stuffed under this thing like a immigrant crossing the border. Well I drift off sleep for who knows how long and suddenly I awake to an almost burning pain on back! I struggle to roll out and look down to find that I had fallen asleep on section of the van that was exposed and connected to the engine!!! (Well it probably wasn’t the engine but it was something damn hot!) I took my jacket off and you guessed part of it was melted! I had literally been cooking myself! I had a red mark on my back where I was laying. If the pain wasn’t so great and I had stayed asleep they band would of a woke to a flame broiled lead singer. I tried to tell this to my comrades but they were near incoherent so I nursed my wounds and got off the floor to listen to more OJ talk.

Then shortly after that as we approached the Ventura County Line suddenly a terrible, horrible sound from the deaths of hell roared out of the Cheese Van’s engine that sounded something like this… “KRBOOMBRACKROAR!”

We had blown the engine! The whole van woke up, and pratically in unison we shouted “What the hell was that!?!”

Taffy J’s instinctive driving skills pulled the van to side of the road but kept moving forward down the highway. His cussing was near Shakespearean.

We all braced as if we were about to explode - we cheered on Taffy J - keep going - we’re close to home - the van at this point was going a whopping 10 miles per hour down the side of the road. And then suddenly… no more. The mighty Cheese Van moved no more. There in the early morning darkness on the side of highway 101 with the eerie sound of the waves crashing onto the Pacfic shore - she died.

Not to mention we were stranded, we had killed Opie’s Van and now we were due to be killed by some homeless vets who were experiencing a group flashback! Ok their were no homeless vets but I wasn’t taken any chances. We used our patented Army of Freshmen deductive powers and came up with a plan - get a tow truck.

As for Taffy J - he was inconsolable. Not even a taffy made by the Gods could ease his pain.

So we got picked by friends (THANK YOU CASSIE!) and got a tow truck. Now the following part is the worst of all… as the tow truck lifts the carcass of the Cheese Van onto it’s flat bed to take it off to it’s final resting place, the unthinkable occurs. In an ultimate act of disgrace, the moron tow truck driver takes off and scrapes the whole side of the Cheese Van against a massive road sign - breaking a window and leaving an ugly gash on it.

At this point Taffy J is physically restrained.

So off we went back home.

I crawled into bed at 8 in the morning (I hate going to sleep when the sun’s up!) and thought to myself this weekend we lost money, destroyed another man’s van (sorry Opie), and I almost set myself on fire BUT I had a great time hanging out with my best friends and more than anything - TOURING RULES.

The end.

but not really… we’re going on a week tour of Cali from Nov 30 to Dec 9 and you guessed it - we’ll be keeping a tour log - till then keep checking the news for more AOF info!

NEWS - 10/22/2001

Ever since this summer we’ve received a lot of email expressing how the log that we kept this for this summer’s tour is sorely missed. (It’s still on the site if you’ve never checked it out.) Well obviously right now we’re not on tour but we are still doing a lot of shows. We decided that we should post a log for this weekend’s two show out of town adventure. So without further adieu back by popular demand - I present to you…

RETURN OF THE TOUR LOG part 1
(Meet The Cheese Van, Taffy J and Something Corporate)
by Chris Jay

It’s been a long time since I popped out one of these babies so forgive me if it’s not up to par with this summer’s work but hopefully it’ll satisfy your need for second hand road kill. This weekend we did two shows - 1. @ The Coachhouse in Santa Barbara w/ Something Corporate, US Crush, Idiot Savant and Ripcord and 2. @ The Gaslighter in Gilroy w/ Rivals, Keeping Ellis and Red Top Road. Here is the gory details as I remember them…

Ok. A crucial part of understanding this tale is… THE CHEESE VAN. What the hell is the cheese van you ask? Well the CHESE VAN is a 12 seat beat to hell van that is owned by Opie who is a member of The American Cheese Band. It’s the van they used on a two week tour this summer and they’re a band from our area that we happen to be really good friends with.

*On a historical note - I actually booked their first show ever many moons ago at the fabled and sort of forgotten Teltron Café. For AOF historians that’s the café where I first met the other guys in the band but I’m getting off the subject.

Back to the van - currently we don’t have a tour van - this summer we toured in an RV (see Ventings) which was supplied by the Motocross tour we were on. Prior to that we used my beloved mini van which after years of duty in the line of fire crapped out and was sold for a measly 200 bucks last fall. So for these out of town shows we asked Opie (remember Opie?) if we could borrow his van. Opie being the lovable chap that he is agreed and we took along Cheese Band Roadie and Van Driver - Big Joe (or Taffy J as we refer to him due to his love of Taffy oriented candy products). Taffy J’s one of those big lovable dudes who is easily frustrated by slow drivers and vending machines. All was well in AOF land… or so we thought.

The first show was Friday @ The Coachhouse. Now the Coachhouse had been closed for the past 2 years -we played there in the past with The Cherry Poppin Daddies (when they were big), The Specials (when they were together) and Fountains of Wayne (when they actually toured). It’s back up and running and we got on show with Something Corporate, an enormously popular band in Orange County who we have played with in the past. Things for Something Corporate have gone quite well for them since we last saw them. They signed a big record deal - have brand new gear and are heading out on tour. I’m violently jealous but at the same time they totally deserve it and better them than most of the crap out there.

So anyways…. After going through some serious drama as to who’s playing and when they’re playing (us and SC wanted to play next to each other - I’ll spare you the details to protect the innocent) we finally got it figured out - props to our bass player Moso who took charge. We were on 2nd and Something Corporate was on 3rd on a 5 band bill (too many bands for me on one night). So… a lot of our most supportive local fans came out - (a newly cropped Christi, a sugared out Courtney, ska loyalist Jeff and the Knocked Out posse, Nina and family, Maggie the Martian, Kevin and the Ventura drinkers and more) and I mean it when I say it we can’t thank them enough. These are people who don’t casually go to AOF shows if it’s big event or with a big band - they hit them all if they can - we really appreciate it. Before the show we did an cool interview with our friend Kinetha from Visalia for a school project - sorry if you fail… : > ) and we also got to see Jay Ferguson - the old school famous rock dude who produced our record. So were in good spirits to say the least. Good bands, great fans, and close friends.

Now the show was cool - the set was cut short (when isn’t it) but it was fun. Something Corporate’s crowd is fiercely Orange County - they drove all the way to SB to see them. They were cool to us but not going nuts… hey you got to save that for the headliner right?

SET (for those keeping track)

Bulletproof in Baggy Jeans
On The Radio
Quit That Hellhole
Paradise (NEW)
Calling All Tornados (BRAND NEW)
Send For You
Summer’s Over
MTV (NEW)
Spring Break

Anyways we thought we played a tight show and besides no lighting on stage which had me tripping over the monitors between songs - it was fun. Something Corporate was great (did I mention I am jealous of their top of the line equipment) and their crowd is way cool when they’re playing but then a terrible thing happens - when Something Corporate is down - they leave. I’m not talking about one or two people - I’m talking the whole club splits! This was no problem for us - we had already played when it was packed but… for poor US Crush… it sucked.

Now there’s two types of bad shows - 1. No crowd at the show. But at least when there’s no crowd all the band suffer equally. Plus if the band still rocks out - you know they’re worth following. Not to mention you get more of a personal show. So for a true music fan - no crowd can sometimes be a good thing.

Now the more evil type of bad show is the following. 2. A night when there is a huge crowd but they’re gone by the time you play. Whether it’s cause it gets too late or just the other band’s fans are cliquey - nothing is more of a blow than knowing that it was a good crowd… just not when you played. So point being - I felt bad… really bad for the last two bands of the night. I also thought Something Corporate’s fans were kind of beat to not even give the next band a chance. I know most of them had a long drive but for crying out loud what’s one song? Oh well… just my opinion. Fact of the matter is Something Corporate should of played last - at least then other bands would have had chance. Lesson learned - the band with the most fans should always go last.

Well the night closed down and like I said we had fun - we said goodbye to the very cool Something Corporate guys - looks like we may hook up with them in December if all works - I think our bands are a really good fit. After packing up we headed home in different cars - Taffy J and I took the Cheese Band Van home with a Del Taco stop on the way. I wanted to hit a party at my friend Ashley’s house in Isla Vista but I know I needed some sleep so I headed off to bed to get a little shut eye prior to the next day’s early morning rise and trip up to Northern California. As we all slumbered into the night little did we know what the following day would have in store for us… as visions of sold out arenas and scantly clad women filled my dreams, the poor Cheese Van was experiencing it’s last night ever of peace… but in the depths of my inner soul something wasn’t right. For there loomed a terrible future of harassed nuns, broken vans and the smell of… garlic!

Check back later this week for part 2 of RETURN OF THE TOUR LOG! It gets good! See ya then!

What's Up?

Tonight (or actually this morning) a miraculous event has occured. After being home over a month- all the mailing list names have finally been inputed. We've slowly been working on it over the past few weeks but a recently laid off Owen charged the last of the names (including anyone who signed the mailing list at the Kansas, Indy, Kentucky, NY and Philly Warped Tours). So if you signed up at any of those shows- rejoice! You'll finally be getting our weekly mails. If you don't get anything in your inbox this week- go to the site and sign up again. There's a good chance your spelling was so atrocious that your email address was returned to us as not existing.

Elsewhere... does anybody else have trouble going to sleep? How bout waking up? I think there's some sort of link to the two but I've yet to figure it out exactly. I never was good in science. : > )

Stop by here later this week for details on AOF in the studio!

The first ever AOF chat has come and gone. No one was hurt seriously- so we are considering it a big success. Chris, One', Aaron and Owen stopped by (Dan and Mike missed it do to work) and talked, actually listend to, or actually saw postings from over 40 different AOF YAHOO CLUB members including such well named luminaries as AOF MAN BITCH, AOF CHICK and AOFMUNKYPUNK. Not too mention club torch bearers like Christi, Jackie (who is still loved), Courtney, Jillian, Rachel and Rinnie. To be honest it was pretty hard to follow all the different posts- but there was some cool stuff. We also got a couple emails from people who tried to get in but couldn't master YAHOO's directions. You were there in spirit!

Hey we just got some new small sized AOF stickers- if you want some send us a stamp and we will send a couple out to you! Bomb squaders- look for sticker info in next week's mail.

Heads up on The Army of Freshmen/Something Corporate/US Crush show at The Coachhouse in Santa Barbara on October 19th!

NEWS - 9/25/2001

Greetings on this 25th day of September, 2001. Big props to everybody who came out to the Surf Rodeo- nie to see old friends and new ones. Our apologies for the mad autograph seeker and the overzealous drunk who both rushed the stage during the show. How cool was it that nobody caught the drunk guy? Also sorry our set was a little short but oh well... it was FREE. We all had a really fun day.

What's new in AOF land?

Last week we recorded a segment for an extreme sports show called BE IT TV that airs on ESPN JAPAN! In two months AOF officially goes international. Now if some will just fly us over there so we can play there! (That's a little hint to all our digustingly rich friends). It was cool. They took some footage at The Core Tour- (if you were there maybe you'll be in it!), made us lip sych "Spring Break" and we did an interview. I can tell you personally singing without a mic is weird. We will keep you posted as to when it airs in Japan!

The first ever AOF chat is coming Monday, October 1st. By the request of the faithful YAHOO CLUB members who actually post there we will having a chat. If you live on the West Coast it'll start at 5 pm and if you live on the East Coast- it'll start at 8 pm. If you live in the middle of the country- you'll have to do the math on your own as to when it starts. You'll need to join the AOF YAHOO CLUB if you haven't already to participate- it has a chat room and that's where it's happening. To join head over to our links, click on YAHOO CLUB and follow thier instructions. It should be pretty fun and most of AOF if not all of us will be there.

What else... can't give you all the details yet but we getting ready to do some new recordings. Should be able to give you more info on that soon. It's some really great news though!

As for shows we will continue booking in Cali and Arizona for the months of Oct, Nov and Dec. We try to make everything all ages but sometimes we're forced to go over 21. This weekend we'll be at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo for a FREE ALL AGES afternoon show and Friday Night back home in Ventura for an over 21 show at Nicholbys. For more info on shows head over to tour dates!

hope everybody is doing great out there!

Just wanted everyone to know that the mail we sent out yesterday was obviously not written yesterday. It was written Monday the 10th (check the date at the top of the mail it's self). I wanted to clear that up in case God forbid anyone thought we were so insensitive enough as to send a band mail in light of yesterday's horrible tradegy.

Everyone in the band is shocked over what happened. We played in New York just last month and met a lot of great people there- our thoughts and prayers are with them and everyone else involved at any level of his senseless tradgedy.

Take care everbody out there and we will talk to you soon.

NEWS! The wacky world of rock and roll strikes again! First the bad... than the good...

BAD...

The show last night in Langley, Virginia was canceled 5 minutes before it started with people waiting in the crowd. Sorry. I guess the track owner was some kind of big time asshole who was going to screw the show's promoter. Also that day... the show in ALbany, Georgia on the 3rd was (guess what?) canceled! So with a new break in the schedule guess where we are headed for two shows thanks to our Ernie Ball hook up-

THE WARPED TOUR! (Insert Gospel Music!)

That's right. We are off to do the Warped Tour @ The Verizon Center in Philadelphia this Friday, August 3rd (MY HOMETOWN WARPED!) and the very next day Saturday, August 4th @ Randall's Park in New York City!

Can you believe after all this praying- we got on two more Warps in Major cities!

but wait...

Not all is well in Freshmen land...

Since we had a break Owen hadm already scheduled to fly home for his sister's wedding- this means- NO OWEN for those shows.

More trouble- as I write this we are at a Holiday Inn in Virginia and it's raining. Meaning the show we have today could be canceled. Sounds great right? Gives us a day jump to head up north. Wrong. If it's canceled there's a chance that they may post pone it for the following day. Meaning- NO WARPED TOURS!

Will your favorite pop rockers make it to the Warped?

Will's Owen's plane crash?

Will the band be able to rock minus The Buce?

Will angry Nascar loving red necks emerge to steal our RV and eat us?

Tune in to the next tour log!

CHRIS JAY

NEWS - 7/30/2001

The show it's self is on Saturday the 28th but it's being broadcasted on Sunday July 29th on ABC at 4pm (Eastern- check listings)... that's what they tell us- as for us being on TV- who knows- hopefully when they cut to commercial we pop on- we are playing a 15 minute set while the motocross guys jump over our stage. Could be nothing could be something. We'll let you know if we make the cut- so far no one knows anything about it!

CANCELED and MOVED SHOWS- WEST VIRGINIA is NO MORE. Sorry but we're stoked we don't have to drive down there after the "Chris comes home show" on SATURDAY, AUGUST 11th in Cape May, New Jersey. If you live on the east coast - you should be there! The Conneticut show was postponed due to rain it's now AUGUST, 14th. We will still be there- so you should too! We may be at X GAMES in Philly- maybe- we'll let you know!

HOMECOMING SHOW- it looks like we will playing SKATE STREET in VENTURA on FRIDAY, AUGUST 31st with our friends SUGARCULT! More info coming but you pretty much suck if you're not there! Two of my favorite bands at an all ages show for 5 bucks. A deal on many levels.

SPEAKING of home- get your arse over to Salzers in VENTURA- they should have some type of AOF deal/display promoting our record. If you don't have it yet- get it there!

MESSAGE TO STREET TEAM- Iinfo will be coming when we get back into town- we promise to get it moving. Hang in there till then!

Now to the good- We got added to 3 more WARPED TOUR shows! Can you believe it? We are so stoked! Along with San Diego (6/27/01), Ventura (6/28/01) and LA (6/29/01) we will also be at the Kansas City (7/10/01), Indianapolis (7/12/01), and Cincinnati (7/17/01) shows in July! Thank God for this Ernie Ball truck we are playing on. They added the shows because our Moto Tour is in the same area. I just can't believe that we are playing on 6 Warped Tour dates. Too cool. I can remember being in high school and dreaming of playing the Warped Tour. Now we are - 6 times!

Also the good news doesn't stop there- We are playing at the summer NAMM show in Nashville, TN on (7/20/01)! NEWS - 5/16/01

We got bad news and good news. First- we present the bad. The show this Friday night at Solid Grounds in Simi Valley has been CANCELED! We know it’s terrible. It’s not for the standard reasons though. Turns out this past weekend Solid Grounds had a fire and is in bad shape! (Not so solid after all I guess.) We know what you’re thinking… “God no! Now I won’t be able to see AOF before they leave for their national tour next week!” Well we couldn’t just take off without saying goodbye so we now present to you the good news-

The Army of Freshmen Going Away On Tour Show!
Monday, May 21 at Skate Street in Ventura
w/ special guests Psycho Café and The Return!
It’s an early all ages show (starts at 7 ends at 10) So beg and plead with your parents and be there! A night not to be missed. It’ll be a teary eyed farewell and maybe just maybe you’ll get see the RV that we’re taking on tour. : > )

We are leaving the very next day- so feel free to bring assorted going away presents (cookies, pez, beef jerkey, Mr. T stuff, clean socks, etc…) It’s gonna be an intimate and special night with The Army of Freshmen. Did we mention The AOF panties will on sale there for the first time? : > ) Gotcha on the panties didn’t we!

As you know AOF will be criss crossing the country this summer on the Moto Music Tour (the dates have changed again- they've added Phoenix, Seattle, Bakersfield and more) (we have got dates all over Cali- check the site!) but we will be back for three days in June to play at THE WARPED TOUR! How great is that? We are on the following shows- June 27th in San Diego, June 28th in Ventura (hometown!) and June 29th in Los Angeles.

Speaking of the tour- if you're in a band head over to the tour's official website and ssubmit your band to open for us- Ernie Ball is picking bands from all over to play the dates. What are you waiting for?

E-mail us and let us know what shows you’re going to!

Your “officially umemployed, full time rock and roll friends”,

Chris, Aaron, Owen, Dan, One’, Mike

PS. If you come to the going away show and bring stamps – we promise to send you a postcard from the road! And whoever drives the farthest to the going away show will walk home with a sweet ass prize! What deals!

NEWS - 5/15/01

Hey Everybody!

Along with the show this weekend in Simi, we've added our official going away show Monday, May 21st at Skate Street in Ventura! We've got more info coming Tuesday - just wanted to give you a heads up. We know it's a week night but what the hell - it's our going away show, so you need to be there!!!

Love,

The Boys (Chris, Aaron, Dan, One', Owen, & Mike)

NEWS - 5/11/01

Couple things... once again the tour dates for the Moto Music Tour have changed. New states include Kentucky, Colorado, Maryland. We'll also hit some cities like Portland, Seattle and Denver. Most of all we'll be playing the San Diego Warped Tour date along with The Ventura and LA ones! We're up to 50 shows this summer and counting. Expect more changes and info to come in the next week. Hopefully no more cancels. If we're coming to a city near you let us know!

After checking the new TOUR DATES why don't you wander over to LYRICS where we've added a new feature! Blue Hand Records sat down Chris and forced him to talk about the lyrics to the songs! They're sending his answers out with the press kits but we've posted them for you in the LYRICS section. It's some really awesome stuff and the first time even some of us in the band knew the full story. Head over there and get educated.

less than two weeks away,

Chris, Aaron, Owen, Dan, One', Mike

NEWS - 5/11/01

There's been a ton of date changes on the Extreme Tour this summer - all for the good. It turns out that on off days we'll be playing on the Ernie Ball truck at music stores. This is cool because it will bring us into a bunch of new towns and states. This is also a little scary cause it looks like we'll be playing 'till we pass out. We'll be posting the new dates later today. So check back! Along with the new dates is another Warped Tour date! Too cool. Check back.

soon to be suffering from exhaustion,

Chris, Aaron, Owen, Dan, One', Mike

NEWS - 5/10/01

Guess where we went today? We went to order new merchandise for the summer tour! Heads up for AOF baby doll shirts and (ready for this?) Army of Freshmen THONG UNDERWEAR for the ladies! Also by popular demand we will have the standard Army T's in XXL now!
So bring mass cash to the next show!

love 6 guys you won't see in thongs,

Chris, Aaron, Owen, Dan, One', Mike

NEWS - 5/8/01

BIG NEWS! The Army of Freshmen are playing two dates on the VANS WARPED TOUR this summer! Best of all - it's the VENTURA and LA shows! How fucking awesome is that? Turns out that there's a break in The Moto Music Tour that occurs right when Warped hits Ventura (6/28) and LA (6/29) which works out for us. We'll be on the Ernie Ball stage which is the exact same one we'll be on for the Motocross tour! So this is a no branier - YOU BETTER BE THERE! We were really bummed we couldn't play locally this summer but now we are - and best of all - at THE WARPED TOUR! Get your tickets now through ticketmaster. Headliners this year are 311, New Found Glory, Rancid and more!

Now for the rest of the summer... we're on the Extreme Moto Music Madness Tour. For those who don't know it's a freestyle motocross tour that features the biggest names in the sport. It's coming to speedways and raceways throughout the country- so check the tour dates for locations. Remember - it's coming to a lot of small towns - so check the map to see if you're close. This is our first national tour and we so stoked to meet everybody out there - e-mail so we can hook up. We also need help promoting the shows- so if you're close to one of the dates - let us know! As for you Jersey heads, AOF will be doing a one off show in Cape May (Chris' hometown) - details coming. Before that - we're doing a going away show in Ventura (info coming) and a show in Simi Valley on May 18th. Be there!

How could we forget? Our debut CD is hitting stores Tuesday, May 29th! So YOU need to go to your favorite store and order it! Since we are a small label most stores won't stock it unless you request it. When asking for it let them know it's on Blue Hand Records which is distributed by Southwest Wholesale (this info helps them find it much quicker!) Got a record store close to you that puts up posters - let us know and we'll send you some to put up. Can't wait or want it quick? Order it now through the mail! Go to Order The CD for info!

What else? Street Team is growing. Join now! Check out Yahoo's AOF club and post messages and meet other AOF fans. Also stop by the unofficial sites on our links page. Thanks to to our siters, Gargle Guy, Ruthie, Christi and Nancy for spreading the word!

Ok. This is our first full length CD. It's self titled (that means its called THE ARMY OF FRESHMEN) and it's coming out on Blue Hand Records. The CD RELEASE will be the very first place you will be able to buy the disc. No one and we mean no one will have it before the 30th. In fact it won't even be in stores till May! (Is the coolness setting in yet?) Anyways… for you poor bastards that don't live in Cali and can't wait till May- it will be available for my mail order on April 1st. We'll fill you in on those details at a later date! Yes we are excited! One more thing… it costs 12 bucks. We know- peanuts to a high roller like you.

Nancy Potter, our January Fan of the Month, made a fan site and its pretty rad! Check it out and tell her how cool you think it is! Its called Nancy's Super Sexy Army of Freshmen Page! The CD RELEASE SHOW! It's gonna be Friday, March 30th at The House of Praise in Ventura. It'll be an absolutely FREE SHOW and it's also ALL AGES. The show is gonna start at 7:30 pm and also on the bill are our friends, Psycho Café . It will also be the first place to buy our disc (out on Blue Hand Records)! So bring 12 beans!

We went through a lot of work to find a place that is all ages that we can also do for free. It's our way of saying thanks for all your support up to this point. It should be an awesome night of music and you need to be there. The House of Praise is located on 1956 Palma Dr. in Ventura. For you out of towners - load up the car and take a road trip - we'll find you place to stay- no kidding. We care!

As for the disc this will be the first time it's available anywhere! In April it will be available through our website and in local stores and then it will be released nationally in May. We're not "big enough" for most chains to stock it off the bat- so chances are you'll have to order it. Point is- you will be able to get it! We're gonna hold off on telling you about our national summer tour (it's massive!) until April- first things first and that's blowing up this CD party - expect to get some e-mails and if you live in Cali - an invitation in the mail. You don't want to miss this. If you're not on the mailing list- now's the time!

To top things - we're forming our first ever street team in April! So AOF mania is on it's way to town near you! So that's the happs for now and as it gets closer we'll have more info on the show!

Guess where we just got back from? THE ERNIE BALL FACTORY in SAN LUIS OBISPO! What were we doing there you ask? Well if you must know we were touring the factory because we just signed a sweet sponsorship deal with them! What do this mean to you... not much but it means Aaron and One' don't have to mug little old ladies for money to buy strings anymore and that is good thing. We now get um for free. Ah... the benefits. Seriously though... we are stoked to be on The Ernie Ball team - they are hands down the coolest companies out there (have you ever seen their shirts?) and it looks like they may play a big part in our summer tour! Well our tour with Psycho Café is all over and we had a blast! They are an incredibly nice bunch of guys and one hell of a band (we still have their songs stuck in our head). We're all looking forward to playing with them again. For only having ten shows– we had a lot of adventures and met some killer people. This tour included AOF's first time in Riverside, Santa Maria and Arizona! Oh the stories we could tell... from the show in Santa Maria being moved to the promoter's house to running into a blizzard and getting snowed in at Big Bear- it was crazy! As always we made the best of the situation and we met a lot of good people- shout outs to the staff at UC Riverside, Big Chris in Arizona, Donnie at Big Fi
